Spring cleaning season is finally here and honestly, I’ve done quite a lot of it this year. I’ve cleaned every closet and every drawer, but spring cleaning doesn’t necessarily mean only your clothing. There are quite a few other things you should be cleaning this spring! Here are 5 unconventional things with expiration dates you need to spring clean this year.
Beauty products have expiration dates! You can find the dates on the back of the products and usually, it explains them in spans of months. If you want a cheat sheet, check out this link! If any of your products smell a little off or aren’t applying as well as they used too, it’s time to toss them. Don’t worry about throwing out products because everyone is having spring sales!
I am fortunate enough to own both a beautiful cat and dog and just like human food, pet food and treats can expire! Check your pets treats and food for an expiration date! If you feed your pup or cat expired food or treats, they could get seriously sick!
Canned Food + Boxed Food
I don’t know about you, but I get sucked into a ton of sales, especially with canned and boxed goods! What can I say, I love a good deal?! I don’t often reach for canned foods, but that’s not an excuse to ignore them in the pantry. Canned food expires too! So be sure to check the date on everything. Also if your can is looking oddly shaped, toss it because it could be contaminated with toxins ( PSA this is a link to the CDC’s guide on this!) I also get sucked into buying boxed items on sale, pasta for $0.50 per box, the limit is 10… I’ll buy 10, but I don’t always work through boxed food items before they expire. Yes, Pasta expires. You’re welcome.
I honestly haven’t cleaned my medicine cabinet for years…but this year, I was on a roll, and I realized how important it is to spring clean your meds. When I was cleaning out my medicine/ vitamin cabinet, I discovered that I had 193928228 bottles of expired medicines! Here’s how to get rid of your meds according to the FDA! If I didn’t check the bottles before use, I could have gotten seriously sick!
Deep Clean Freezer And Fridge
Sure, you clean your fridge every week before you go grocery shopping…right? You may clean out the items but not the actual fridge and freezer. I highly recommend doing a deep cleanse of both. This also includes checking the expiration dates on items in both. In case you do not know, here’s what the Food Safty officials say about how long items should be kept in the freezer and fridge.
