Recently, I’ve been seeing a ton of brand releasing glitter eyeshadow pots. As far I can recall, Tarte seems to have launched these pots first in 2017. I was not able to find sources to check who was the first to release this style eyeshadow. However, since the initial launch of this style product a ton of popular brands have been releasing their own versions, including Hourglass. If you watch any beauty influencers, chances are they have probably used or talked about this style product. The Tarte version is not talked about nearly as much as the Hourglass ones, but both are still popular in the community. Today, I wanted to compare and contrast these products to see which is the better buy.
The packaging for these products are similar with their shiny caps, and the logo embossed in a matte shade. They do differ in physical size. When you open up both of these products, you are met with a plastic piece that pushes the product down, making sure the product stays fresh. Both of these shades claim to be champagne-shades, but I disagree, which I will get into more detail below.
The hourglass version is in a lightweight pot with a metallic brown top with the logo embossed in gold. It’s simple and chic. The Scatted Light glitter eyeshadow cost $29 for .12oz of product. The shade Reflect is a true champagne/rose gold color. This formula felt a lot smoother than the Tarte one. This blend lasted all day, but it’s a lot more subtle than the Tarte one.
The Tarte pot costs $22 for .11oz of product. So you are getting a tiny bit more when it comes to the Hourglass product. When applied, you can feel the grainy texture in the Tarte version which I didn’t mind. I used this product with my finger and found it extremely pigmented, and there was no fallout at all, which I was thrilled about. However even though, sun-drenched promises to be a champagne shade it’s 100% a gold shade with very little pink to it. It lasted all day long and blended well.
Overall, I loved both of these eyeshadows. If I had to pick one to recommend, I would suggest you pick up the Tarte if you are looking to make a bold statement. If you prefer your makeup more subtle, than check out the Hourglass version.
