I was recently wandering around the The Westfield World Trade. I was early for an appointment, so I found myself wandering aimlessly through the most pristine mall that I have ever seen. I was walking through the halls, I came across the Kusmi Tea Shop! I heard of this brand before but I didn’t know that they had a stand-alone shop, so obviously I had to check it out. They also have a brand new shop in Soho, I am planning on checking that out sometime soon! Also can we talk about the view below?! How cool is that?!
The interior of shop was stunning, I had a great time exploring their products. This company has a focus on Russian-inspired teas and has been in business for over 150 years! I was super excited to explore this because I didn’t know Russian tea was a thing, and as you know from my DNA test post I am Russian/Polish. While I was at the shop, they were having a deal where you could get 3 canisters of tea in a gift box for only $20, which mean each product was between $6-7. So I went for it and picked these three blends: Tsarevna, Russian Morning and Karavan. Lucky for me, I told the worker that I enjoyed a bold dark tea, so she was able to suggest those mentioned above. Not only did I purchase tea, I purchased a new tea spoon as well.
Let’s start off with the limited edition Tsarevna. The blend promises to be “Christmas tea with zesty and gourmet notes fits perfectly with the exclusive recipes of the house.” This blend has a light to medium amber, other then the color, the first thing I noticed is that tea is strongly scented. The scent was reminiscent of chai tea. The flavor is light and rather smooth for a spice-infused blend. Cardamon and anise were the strongest flavors to me. This is a great tea to pick up if you prefer things on the spicer side. This is also limited edition, so pick it up while you can!
Moving forward the next blend, I wanted to talk about is Russian Morning. I’m someone who adore English breakfast/morning tea, so I was thrilled to check this out. This has long leaves, so it was hard to scoop out some of the product to steep. My canister did not have a steeping time on it, so I steeped it for about 4 minutes, which is about the average steeping time. It’s extremely strong and totally reminded me of Maks from Dancing With The Stars, somehow…I felt like this is the type of bold tea he would drink. (I might be a bit too creative for my own good, sometimes.) This is similar to English Breakfast tea and I highly recommend adding a sweetener to this blend. I will drinking this in the mornings, for sure.
Last but not least is Karavan. This tea was suggested to me by the shopkeeper. It has a medium amber and looked similar to darjeeling tea. I was unable to pick up exact flavor notes but I tasted a lot of earthiness to it. This was the strongest tea out of the three that I tried. It’s a perfect morning tea because it’s sure to wake you up. In other words, it’s bold AF.
What kind of tea/coffee do you drink in the morning?
