I’ve been a fan of Gigi Hadid for a long time, I even had the pleasure of seeing her walk during NYFW when I interned for Anna Sui, right before she made it super big. I love her personality and of course, I love that she’s super fit as oppose to looking unhealthy on the runway. So, I was really excited when she announced that she was curating/creating a makeup collection with Maybelline. I knew the price point would be great and recently, I’ve noticed Maybelline have been stepping up their formulas. I was so impressed with her collection because it was so vast with a few palettes themed as east coast and west coast. I am an East Coaster but I fell in love with her West Coast collection. Also don’t judge this photo, it was before I knew how to shoot a fashion show. This is why I legit don’t use flash anymore…
Recently, I’ve been buying a lot of makeup but I’ve really been putting a lot of thought into the products that I purchase. It may not seem like it but every one of these palettes, has something special about them. It was a tough decision to make but I knew I wanted warm-tones, so I went with the Gigi Hadid Eyeshadow Palette in Warm and her Eye Contour Makeup Brush. To be totally honest, I had no clue that Maybelline even made brushes before this. This is going to be a long post because I love Gigi, sorry fam.
I quite liked the packaging of this. It was very minimalist and I liked that. I love the combination of cursive and print font on the packaging. I do like the strange nude color of the packaging. It happens to be a big trend in the beauty world right now and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. It’s nice that they gave me a brush cover but to be honest, it’s something I am going to take off and lose. I have one of their City Mini palettes and I really enjoy it, so I was stoked to see Gigi design one herself. It’s honestly perfect for traveling. Overall, I give this packaging two thumbs up.
First off, I love how Gigi kept in mind that some people prefer warm tones and others prefer cool tones, which is something brands often forget about. Currently warm tones are trending but some people prefer cool tones. We all know, I’m obsessed with warm-tones. I likes these shades a lot and you can do a complete look with this palette. This is a good combination of shimmers and mattes. The colors are not listed on the palette but they are mentioned on the back. The pigmentation in this palette is quite good for a drugstore brand. The quality is decent and the shades swatched well on my skin and went on smoothly after primer. I love to use the matte rose shade as a transition shade or a base to build up my look. These survived a full day in New York city and still looked really good. Overall, I was really impressed with this formula and I would be open to trying other eye shadows in her collection. I do highly recommend hitting your brush with some Mac Fix + before going into the shimmers or after, so you get the full effect of the shade. It honestly makes so much of a difference.
I really love eye shadow brushes, so purchasing this was a no brainer to me. I always love to use “eye contour” brushes to pack on shadows. I tend to use this style brush to set my eye shadow primer. I was so excited to receive this brush but once I unboxed it, I realized it was travel-sized and not full-sized. I was extremely disappointed with the size of this brush because it cost $15! I still used it but it easily gets lost amongst my other brushes. It’s pretty soft and its made of synthetic material, which is a plus in my book. It picks up color well and does a good job of distributing the color on the lids. Overall, I like this brush but I would not buy it again.
Ultimately, I have to give these products a thumbs up. The price point is great for the palette and the pigmentation is really worth it. The brush is not worth the hype, save your money and spend it on the cool and warm toned West Coast Glam palettes from this collection. I have not tried out other products in this range but after testing these pieces, I would love to purchase more. The nude eyeliner is calling my name!
