Today, we’re talking chocolate chip cookies, for those of you who do not know I am on the quest for the best chocolate chip cookie in all of NYC. This was the second of my many stops on my cookie tour. I was so excited that I found the time to head all the way downtown to City Bakery. It is the second stop on my quest for the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC! I went to their original location or at least that’s what I think this is. This group has expanding into a few other ventures besides just “City Bakery”.
I loved the atmosphere here, as you enter the shop, you are greeted by a literal wall of to-go cups! It was so cute! This shop is also massive! I honestly think it was one of the largest bakeries that I’ve ever been in (especially in NYC), if you have read my previous post on you will know what I am talking about.
It is a great place to sit down and do some work. I saw countless people, typing away on their computers; However I did not see any outlets for chargers. The staff was knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy their jobs. They were happy to tell me a bit about the bakery since it was my first time there. Here is what their cookie display looks like. Their cookie retails for $3.50. (WHY ARE COOKIES SO EXPENSIVE?)
I love how they are imperfect, it really makes them feel homemade. Yes, they are all scooped but these all seem to be unquie. The first thing that I noticed was how flat they are, which left me confused, because I was unsure if they were chewy or crunchy. I took a seat and took my first bite and I was overwhelmed by the taste of sugar, which was interesting. It actually left a grainy texture on my tongue! I was not a fan of these! These were also chewy but the ends were crisp! I loved that the Chocolate chunks were still on the melty side, it made the cookie feel fresh out of the oven, even though mine was not.
Overall, I was not really feeling this cookie. I did eat the entire thing, but it’s something I probably wouldn’t buy it again. As I said their staff and atmosphere was awesome but the cookie was certainly not the best in my book.
