Sweet, decadent and luxurious are three words that aren’t often used to describe food that is vegan, raw, gluten free and dairy-free. Most people tend to think of savory food when they think vegan, raw, gluten-free and dairy-free foods. They often don’t think of chocolates or desserts, however these three words describe ChocAlive truffles perfectly. These treats were created by Julie Glick, who is dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free vegetarian.
Glick and business partner, Janine Prete created the ChocAlive product in 2006 and in 2016 it can be found in 30 Whole Foods Market stores and over 100 other independent stores in the U.S! How incredible is that?! The idea for this product came about when Glick learned she had Lyme Disease. Glick said that she was “was determined to be my own physician… I delved into learning everything I possibly could about making food my medicine.” As a child, Glick remembers her mother enjoying Hershey’s Kisses. She added, “I am one of 5 daughters and we all knew that chocolate was the ultimate treat!”So Chocolate has always held a big spot in her heart. Glick tried everything including raw cacao beans and claimed that “they are an acquired taste… So I diligently experimented with ingredients suggested by friends who were also into food-as-medicine. Then Janine and I did not stop until we crafted ChocAlive! Truffles so that they were so smooth, decadent and delicious that no one could tell that they were insanely healthy too!”
The ingredients in their famous truffles are sourced from specialized companies. The truffles all share the same dark chocolate base except the Chocolate Chip Mint truffles. Glick mentioned that in the creation process of the Chocolate Chip Mint she is now a proud “Mint Mixologist.” The basic truffle has different coatings which give it a different flavor. Some examples of this are almond, dark chocolate and coconut flavored. Each is equally delicious ( lucky for me, I got to try every flavor).
One of the major reasons why Glick loves her products are because “I also just love eating foods that are as close to Nature as possible. I learned that we are not what we eat, but what our cells can absorb. And our cells don’t know what they heck to do with so much processed food. I am also a HUGE animal lover so this way of life truly agrees with me on every level.”
These are so delicious you guys have to give them a try! For more information on ChocAlive. Please check out their website at www.chocalive.com .
